Daily Flossing as an Important Detail of Your Dental Hygiene

Dental hygiene is something that people apprehend from the early years of their life; in fact this detail comes with many people almost as a second nature for the most important times of the day: from the moment they wake up and the moment they go to sleep.

Brushing teeth after the main meals of the day, regularly visit with their dentist, all these should be part of regular hygiene. It is important to take proper care of one’s teeth because in this way many other diseases can be prevented. Ignoring these steps will eventually lead to other dental problems such as cavities, building up plaque that will result in tooth loss, and many other alike.

Taking care of the good state of your gums is another essential part of your dental hygiene process. Not looking after your gums can lead to gum disease which provokes the bad breath of your mouth along with bleeding a lot at the level of your gums. Brushing teeth is not the only thing that you should do since this is not enough to remove the food particles stuck in between your teeth and gum line. The other thing that you should do is flossing and this action should be also regarded as an important process within your regular dental hygiene.

When flossing it is required for you to use the dental floss in a proper way with the clear purpose of removing food as well as tartar from your teeth. You should make use of more than three inches of dental floss, actually a length that is enough to allow you wind the floss around your index finger and wrap the rest of it around the opposite finger to correctly use it in the cleaning procedure. The thumb should be used to press as much as it is necessary between the teeth to reach to the food particle that is stuck there and thus successfully remove it.

After that, slide the strand in a backward and forward motion of the floss as in a gentle rubbing. When the floss has already made its way to the gum go around the tooth and press gently between this one and the gum line. Then reach for up and down motions to release the floss from the teeth.

All these motions should be done around all the teeth not omitting also the ones from the back part of your mouth. You should pay attention during this procedure as there can be cases of gum bleeding. This can happen due to a hard pressure of the strand against the gum line when flossing. But this can be easily stopped once you rinse your mouth.

One piece of advice: make sure that bleeding doesn’t occur too often, if otherwise, you should consult with a dentist and see whether there is something wrong with your gum. Flossing should be a habit that is performed after each meal considering that with every food you ingest, there are particles that can stuck between the teeth, particles that not even a thorough brushing might get you rid of.
